Privacy

I like to know which posts people actually read, and roughly where they came from, so I can write more of what turns out to be useful. That is the entire reason this site has analytics. This page says exactly what that means, because a privacy-first site owes you the specifics rather than a reassuring word.

What gets counted is aggregate and shallow: a page view, the site that referred you (a search engine, a link, a post somewhere), and a rough country and browser. That is it. Numbers in a dashboard, not a profile of you.

What does not happen: no cookies, so there is no banner to click through. No personal data. No cross-site tracking, no advertising, no fingerprinting, no attempt to work out who you are or to follow you anywhere else. Nothing is stored that could single you out.

The counting is done by GoatCounter, an open-source, privacy-first analytics service that is built to collect the aggregate numbers above and nothing more. I chose it precisely because it is the only kind of analytics that is consistent with how I build everything else here, and with the apps: no accounts, no tracking, nothing that needs to leave your device to be trusted.
